Skateboarding and the Unsolved Equation

        Skateboarding and

     the Unsolved Equation

You know how young guys are.  They move their arms

Uncertainly but certainly and mean

To look as if they comprehend.  The harms

Just round the bend are what they haven’t seen.

The shoulders move, too, with those arms, and give

A look of strength, of vulnerable strength.

Their poems don’t mean, however they live

Them.  Major blood vessels run down the length

Of biceps and forearms, sort of a blue

Treasure map of masculinity, threat

And death, though if you asked these men the true

Significance of maleness, I would bet

That they would shrug with blankened faces, move

A bit aggressively, with zilch to prove.
