God’s Love
An angel sought to be like God, better
Than Him. This Lucifer was hurtled down.
He wanted only to break the fetter
Of abject devotion. A fiery gown
Enveloped him. He wears it still. It’s Hell.
Eve tasted fruit. The curses came like snake
Bites, searingly in veins. God cast a spell
On her and hers. Cain decided to break
His brother’s skull. Another curse—God banned
Him. Ham got his father drunk and ravished
Him. Ham’s descendents were all duly spanned
By God’s next curse. God’s curses are lavished.
The thing we gather from all these verses
Is God’s very much in love with curses.
