“while unending ages run”. . . and the Obscure Poet

“while unending ages run”. . . and the Obscure Poet

Joshua 10:12-14

The printed program had those words within

It from a hymn.  An irony was caused.

The service was about as long as sin

Has ruled the Church.  Apparently time paused.

The service stretched and stretched, or so it seemed.

The eulogy and readings were as bad

In their performance as could be.  They teemed

With poor pronunciation.  The result?  Just sad.

Well, yes, a funeral is not supposed

To be a laughing barrel, but then what

If it distracts from memories reposed

Inside the coffin?  Someone’s lost the plot.

The poet lies entrapped within this mess,

His verse read muffled.  We could only guess.
