“Nor the moon by night” ~ Psalm 121

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Please never interfere at night, God.  Let

The moon strike any time it wants. I need

It.  Keep the sun away, but, please, God get

The moon inside my moonless heart.  Impede

The sexless sun but send the moon to shake

My blood.  Let stars be shattered in their course

And cast their spears inside my ribs.  Please make

Eclipse of every sun but send the force

Of starlight — love, drag moonlight into me.

Let planets such as Venus pierce my chest.

You know why.   Even blind divinity

Can see why moons fulfill a lonely quest.

A crescent moon might be enough, a slash

From scythe-like point.  I need its crater flash.
