Several Mysteries from Nowhere to Nowhere
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
While walking on a small-town sidewalk he
Observes a local druggie drunk who picks
From off the ground a bit of life’s debris,
A perfect white gardenia. In this mix
Are mysteries. Who threw the flower away
And why, and why the drunkard swoops and smells
The fragrance? Does this action help allay
The druggie’s life? Another puzzle swells
Up when he casts the blossom down. Why do
That so callously? Does he realize
The meaninglessness of all, this man who
Is purposeless except for drug-fogged highs?
He walks away completely lost and mute
Whose passing moments, all, are absolute.
