Some Myths Come Up Inside Us

Some myths come up inside us with the force

Of memory.  I wake to find that I

Have been gnawing on the flesh of a Norse

God; just a dream, except that there’s the dye

Of truth in it because the meat was Charles

My friend.  That is the ruthless fact of dreams.

They see into us.  The unconscious snarls.

The id refuses certainty and seems

To lie in waiting like the HIV

That’s found a place to hide where facile test

And scientific probing cannot see,

A virus made of demon in the chest.

00Voracious,  conscienceless the deep mind flares

0000    Up harsh, the opposite of Jacob’s stairs.
