Perverse Psychology

I keep on losing arguments with me.
I don’t like losing them with anyone
But it’s far worse (a serendipity
Unwanted) to face up to winning none
(Or nearly none) when I’m disputing with
Myself. I say, “Now wait a minute. I’m
In control,” and want to hug that manly myth
Against the odds. But every little crime
I try to punish turns out in the end to win.
I say, “I’ll not procrastinate today”
(Like all those yesterdays), but then the sin
Out deals. My best intentions go astray.
..Perhaps if I could learn to cheat and feign
….I wanted to go slack, I’d break the chain.
