He Wore his Royal Robes to Lead Out in Matins and Vespers

He Wore his Royal Robes to Lead Out in Matins and Vespers

Some lines of verse by Robert King of France

Sing, simply pious, from one thousand years

Gone by.  We analyze them, though, askance

Because his holiness had fatal fears

Like flaming coals inside it.  He was so

Religious that he felt he had to kill

Those people who did not agree.  Aglow

With his intense convictions, fire would spill

Out from them.  He would burn dissenters from

His faith against a stake.  To do this he revived

An ancient custom.  He would not succumb

To mercy.  Papal evils thus survived.

..He had no conscience in these deaths.  He wore

….His holiness while hearing those flames roar.
