A solitary tongue of cloud comes out

From cave depths in a mountain, mist from dark

Abyss.  The moisture whitely sniffs about.

It tries to travel straight but forms an arc

That settles towards the valley floor.  The rock

Face holds its silence.  Marble shames this mist

With its excited atoms.  The space walk

Of the cloud is louder than the darker schist.

Perhaps the wetness in the air presumes

That it is silent too.  It stays or leaves

Without a reference to the upward plumes

Of scrubland smoke below.  The mist believes

Respect.  The clinging cloud rejects rapport.
