Marquise Memory
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
A perfect diamond moment firm and bright
In memory of the past shines glinting, brief,
But faceted with purity. A night,
A single night contained it. Hard as grief
To blank out, tight as hatred to dismiss,
This tiny instant fails to go away.
Instead it detonates forever. Bliss
Is like that. It demands eternal sway.
It turns the present moment into length
Like immortality. Like that long gone
One, this occasion is recharged in strength
Because of you and you alone. The dawn
Of everything undying in the heart
Comes from that kiss. That memory can’t depart.
