Fathoms of Purple

The master poet
Comes out from the deep purple,
The evening glory.
~ Chora
The depth of purple comes in many modes.
It comes in purple plush for palls at graves,
Rich purpura. It often carries codes
Of tears. The color comes as if from caves
Of death and loveliness. Some roses come
In darkest purple, “Rhapsody in blue.”
The evening glory calls out with a thrum
Of vein-toned indigo. An aura grew
So powerful the haiku poet strained
To pull himself away and make escape
Back to the unpoetic world. Still stained
With purple, he awoke, his mind agape
To find himself returned to common facts
Though tinted with deep purple’s petal tracts.
