Persian King of the British Library
Extremely dark brown and curly, his hair
Demands attention from the eyes and heart.
It’s long enough to trap me like a snare
At midnight where his beard becomes the part
That emphasizes masculinity,
Embracing finely drawn moustache in black,
Its twin. His nose is small and cute and free
Of any hint of Muslim strength, though lack
Of beauty it refutes. He leans the curls
To fill his fingers and right hand to rest
Brown handsomeness there while he reads the swirls
Of Arab script which mirrors his brown crest.
It’s clear that he belongs to Islam’s law,
This one as lovely as a Persian Shah.
