Coronary Complications
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
First call up bigness, heft, and volume of
A manly fist which grasps as much of dirt
As it can hold and does not want a shove
From God to make it smaller, larger, girt
With something other than its own worth. That
Is how a heart is measured. In its size,
Compressed like heavy metals in bomb cores, flat
As earth before Columbus, still blue eyes
Can wham its deepest arteries and veins.
It knows diseases, chiefly love and hate.
It also holds the gems produced by pains
As diamonds form from purifying weight.
..It has its strength in softness, muscle-red,
….A softness strong and heavy, muscle lead.
