TRUTH: The Notice Board Was Blank Today, as Blank as Death
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
I passed again that notice board today,
The one displaying clever Christian quips
That used to make me want to write and say
Some wise or wry things on the holy tips
Imparted in that space. I would have sent
These thoughts to Chuck, the oddest Christian I
Have ever known, but great Jehovah bent
Him into heaven long before my eye
First saw these saintly saws. I never got
To tease my friend with Anglican cuteness,
A mixture of sang-froid with love not hot
Like brimstone roadside Georgia signs, bruteness
From Revelation and its hateful God
Who says He Loves. (Now that is truly odd.)
