Beyoncé, Beethoven and Bach
Job 38:7
The woman sings her peppermint-ish thing.
The Germans do their heavy stomach stuff,
A fugue, a symphony and Wagner’s Ring
Mit Heldentenors set against her fluff.
Bob Dylan and Bob Marley offer wells
With rhythm and guitar and tambourine,
A social conscience and religious swells
Dressed up in dreadlocks and the protest scene.
But we, the two of us, need something in
Between, some melodies and lyrics made
To counter shallowness and greed, the sin
Of looseness and romantic love’s charade.
..We need a new-found music of strong bars,
…. Astringent, deeper than the morning stars.
