Sundown over Lake Baringo:

         A Birthday Sonnet

The sun sank down through alcoholic drink.

We talked as those high on chilled white wine tend

To do.  Her warmth, though, wasn’t just a pink

Of bubbly (or twilight Pimm’s), but a blend

Of purest, dulcet intelligence, clear

Like sun-struck gin, like sangria, healthy

In its gentle heat, traveling past a drear,

Old man’s heart, making the weary wealthy.

She dreams in music of the sweep of Spain

Behind that noble forehead and bright eyes.

Her face is an empress banishing pain

When it pours out its smile, her royal prize.

..This Katie is so generous and sweet

….She makes the need for sunset obsolete.
