The Chambered Hermit Crab

The Chambered Hermit Crab

My heart is like a hermit crab.  It drags
Itself around the graveyard ocean floor
And looks for justice, love, and mercy, snags
Abandoned shells—and settles for
Protection.  Pulling vunlerable parts
Inside an empty sepulcher of lime,
The creature doesn’t think of other arts
Except for nourishment and safety.  Time
Is where it lives, not in eternity.
It clamps its coward claws for drawbridge gate.
Its previous encounters made it see
That love is far outweighed by suckered hate.
..Cramped in its tank-like tomb it seeks to live,
….Believing life has only scaps to give.
