The Pyramid of Cheops
“And God said, Let there be light.”
The pyramid of Cheops thinks it’s still.
In one sense that is true. It is still there,
But not completely. Just like any hill
It rose and it is crumbling. Wear and tear
Attack the Himalayas as they rise.
They’re peaks of paradox—or not. The law
Is cosmic, so we shouldn’t summarize
It as a seeming contradiction. Awe
Is inappropriate. And then, besides,
There’s not one thing, not anywhere, that’s set
In place. Absolutely everything slides.
Stars hurtle round and out. The alphabet
Is swooning, swirling omega. All death
Expands from Heaven in Lucifer’s breath.
