Performing music is a private thing.

An audience or congregation might

Be there beside you or in front.  You sing

Alone, though.  At your voice’s choral height

Its notes are yours alone.  When notes are played,

Their sounds from black and white become your own

And yours alone.  While they are fathom played,

You are a Daniel closeted, alone

In your communion with the notes, divine

In inspiration and then (now), you reach

Your core divinity.  They then align

With what your soul alone, itself must teach.

When music comes from you alone, from you,

It suddenly means everything quite true.
