Beauty and meaning sometimes can be clear and complex at the same time. There is beauty on the surface of this abalone shell. It is seen immediately. When we stay with the image and allow ourself time to observe we begin to see dimensions of beauty. As we stay with the image there is the possibility that it begins to suggest ideas and experiences to our imagination; fire, movement of waves and water, storms, galaxies,metamorphosis,clouds...perhaps each of these and all. Then wonder raises the question, is all of it part of the same thing or is the “one” made up of it all. #image #visual poetry #theone #themany #photography #abalonenecklace
Life observed. I came upon this mourning dove in the parking lot of Trader Joe’s. I’ve seen dead birds before, but something about this dove made me stop observe and reflect. Its soft body lay on the hard hot summer pavement. The Mourning Dove has soft drawn out coo-oo calls that sounds like a lament. This dove was now silent. When taking off and landing mourning doves make a loud whistling that may startle predators or warn flock mates. This dove would no longer take off. It had come to rest midway between the black pavement and the white stripe. For me It introduced the metaphor of the struggle in life between light and dark. Where it came to rest was coincidence of course. Art often raises more questions than answers. #zoroastrian #stoicism #visualpoetry #image #photography #mourningdove
